Smith Micro Offers Voicemail-to-text Service in Spanish to Sprint Subscribers

Smith Micro Software, a provider of wireless and mobility solutions, is now offering Spanish transcription service in its CommSuite voicemail-to-text service platform launched on the Sprint network.

CommSuite from Smith Micro Software delivers voice and messaging services that allow wireless operators to offer reliable, convenient alternatives to over-the-top (OTT) applications. The service has been deployed on the Sprint network since 2010.

The service now allows subscribers to read Spanish voicemail messages as text within the Sprint Visual Voicemail inbox, so they can quickly read and reply to voicemail messages at a concert, in a meeting, at the movies, or anywhere listening is inconvenient.

With this partnership, Sprint hopes to expand the reach of its Voicemail-to-text service by making it easier for Spanish-speaking customers to manage voicemail to better meet all mobile lifestyle needs, Sprint officials said.

Kymber Umaña, Hispanic marketing manager, Sprint, said, "Partnering with Smith Micro on our Voicemail-to-text service gives us the opportunity to offer another innovative service to our large Hispanic consumer base.”

Smith Micro has built flexible 'try-and-buy' purchase options that drive remarkably high adoption. The platform allows multiple monetization methods, such as inline advertising, rich content purchases, and more.

Vinay Chandra, senior director of Product Management at Smith Micro, said, "Sprint has shown clear leadership in turning legacy voicemail into a modern and profitable premium messaging service. The new Spanish transcription feature will appeal to an even broader user base, and we are excited to launch the service on the Sprint network first."

Sprint's Voicemail-to-text service is available on Android smartphones as well as a range of Windows 8 mobile phones.
