Get a Personalized Mobile Experience as Ginger Keyboard 2.0 Launches

Ginger Software is a company that develops a selection of products designed to enable mobile devices and computers to understand the intended meaning of human language input. The company’s products are based on an innovative Natural Language Processing (NLP) platform.

This morning, Ginger Software launched the latest version of its Keyboard app for Android devices. Ginger Keyboard 2.0 debuts today. Some of the new tools that it offers include crowd-powered personal dictionary, word-prediction, new themes, multiple language support, and Intuitive double-checking of mistakes.

The newest version of the Keyboard comes with a lot of flexibility. You can personalize your experience by customizing how the Keyboard looks and feels. Because Ginger Software is a company that helps native and non-native English speakers improve their writing skills, included are various input languages, as well as the new Ginger Personal Dictionary.

Some of the other updates and improvements that have been made to the app are:

  • New themes and layouts: Users will now have the option to customize their keyboard layout with a selection of five different themes to choose from. These include changing the keyboard color and spacing of the keyboard buttons.
  • Multiple language support: The new keyboard will include the option to switch to other languages via the space button. The additional languages, which include Japanese, Tagalog and Chinese, bring the total number of supported languages to more than 60.
  • Automatic word-prediction: The Keyboard supports both online and offline word-prediction for many of the featured languages.

The new version is also designed to include enhancements to its core online editing engine. Ginger's online proofreader is contextually-aware. That means that suggested corrections are in tune with the message that the text is trying to convey. This means that correctly spelled words that do not make sense within the context of a sentence are flagged by Ginger. There is also a rephrasing tool that suggests alternative ways to write text that add more expression and clarity to the original message.

Dudu Noy, Ginger Software’s CMO, said, "The latest version of our Keyboard makes it even easier for native and non-native English speakers alike to take the hassle out of spelling and grammar checking. Part of Ginger's strength lies in its cloud based cross-platform nature; having it accessible everywhere the user writes is part of our company's mission. We’re very excited about this release and will be placing greater emphasis on our mobile offering with future updates. In fact, we’re going to be exhibiting our current and future mobile offering at the upcoming Mobile World Conference taking place in Barcelona in February.”

The dictionary is constantly being updated, which means that currently trending words, or words that have officially made it into the actual dictionary are all included and recognized as real words. You also have the option to personalize your own dictionary so that names, places and even slang can also be recognized and they won’t be marked as misspelled words.

A nice feature is that words that are used often do not need to be added to the dictionary. The software will understand it as a real word, automatically adding it to the dictionary.
