Nokia to Deploy 30k Phones to CaixaBank Employees

Nokia has struck a deal with Spanish financial group CaixaBank, which will see the bank choose Nokia smartphones as the preferred device for its employees. Along with the agreement, CaixaBank purchased 30,000 Lumia smartphones from Nokia to be deployed across the employee base.

The collaboration, which includes Microsoft as it acquired Nokia’s mobile operations last year, is being used to advance CaixaBank’s technological development phase with a stronger focus on mobile business moving forward, both for employee and customer.

Nokia’s Lumia 925 phone was chosen for the first stage of the development and through the program staff may be able to acquire personal models for themselves and family members too. The phone has many consumer tech advantages such as a PureMotion HD+ 4.5-inch screen and its 8.7 megapixel camera with PureView technology.

CaixaBank says it chose this line of phones as it will address security concerns and integration with day-to-day office needs. This includes encryption of information and anti-malware protection as well as interacting with banking services like NFC (Near Field Communications) and integrating with Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, and Lync.

“Thanks to the collaboration between all parties, we managed to deliver a customized solution for CaixaBank covering all their requirements and allowing us to manage it for the future in a coordinated way,” said Reyes Justribó, general manager for Nokia in Iberia.

This isn’t the first deal of its kind for Nokia, having come to an agreement previously with Delta Airlines to provide 19,000 smartphones to the airline’s employees.

Founded in 2011, CaixaBank is based in Barcelona, Spain and is the country’s third largest lender with global operations also. It is a member of the LaCaixa Group. The bank touts itself as “the most innovative bank of the world” after receiving the honor from the Global Banking Innovation Awards.
