New App to Locate Missing Pets!

If you’ve pet has ever gone missing, you know how traumatic it can be for the owner- It’s missing part of the family. And from the pet’s perspective, it could be dangerous for it to roam on the streets. Thankfully ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has come up with the first-ever interactive mobile app to help trace lost pets.

Pets are like human beings in many ways. Some are shy, some friendly and some bold. Also, just as many of us are scared of lightning and thunder and hide under bedclothes, muffling our ears with pillows, pets also try and flee from loud noises. In trying to escape from the frightening sounds, they sometimes run so far away that they get lost and cannot find their way back.

The ASPCA mobile app, developed in consultation with ’ Missing Pet Partnership’, one of the nation's foremost experts in reuniting lost pets with their guardians, tells owners what to do not only when their pets go missing, but what precautions to take before, during and after a major storm or a natural disaster.

"Whether your pet goes missing as a result of fireworks or a bad storm, the best, most proven tactics to recover that pet may not be as obvious as you might think," said Dr. Emily Weiss, vice president of shelter research & development for the ASPCA.

Every minute is precious and the shorter the delay in trying to locate a missing pet, the greater are the chances of recovering it. “Searching for your missing pet the right way is vital, and could make the difference between reuniting with your beloved pet and never seeing them again," observed Weiss.

The app, currently available for Android and the iPhone, allows users to store and manage their pet’s critical health records, which could prove vital during an emergency.  The app allows users to easily build a ‘digital lost pet flyer’ that can be shared instantly on social media networks, news about the missing pet flies fast , increasing the chances of locating them quickly.

Perhaps the best thing is to ensure that pets don’t go missing, and just to play it safe, double check leashes and collars and make sure that the ID tag is up to date.  In case they do run away, the ASPCA app can help locate them.
