BACtrack Launches Smartphone Breathalyzer

Already a leading manufacturer of breathalyzers, BACtrack has expanded into the mobile market with the launch of the BACtrack Vio. Harnessing the latest developments in miniaturized technology and smartphone capabilities, the device hopes to cut down on drunk driving problems in our society as a whole.

The Vio is a miniature breathalyzer that attaches easily to a keychain and is connected to a companion app via Bluetooth, as opposed to many previous options which required a connection through the headphone jack or USB port. The app is free of charge and, in addition to reading the user’s BAC offers many features to enhance its functionalities and help people become more knowledgeable about their alcohol use and how it affects their body. It is available on both Apple and Android platforms.

Some of the main bonus features included in the app include a tool called “What’s Your BAC?” which enables the user to guess their BAC before revealing the result, tracking the disparity between the guess and result over a period of time. This allows monitoring of how people are doing in their effort to better understand their intoxication levels. The ZeroLine feature offers an estimate of how long it will be before the user’s BAC will return to zero percent. There are also tools for tracking usage and attaching photos and notes to specific readings, as well as options to share results via text message or social network.

The Vio’s measurements are quite accurate thanks to MicroCheck Sensor integration, a proprietary technology that uses unique techniques to provide more reliable results from purer samples independent of elements in the surrounding air that may taint them.

The device is currently available on the manufacturer’s website for $49.99, and will appear in popular retail locations within the next month.
