Wi-Fi is the Way to Go for Mobile Surveillance

Mobile surveillance has become very popular in the vehicle transportation sector, and is used by public transportation, such as school buses, trains, cargo vehicles, and even armored cars or law enforcement. In the event of an incident involving vehicle, recorded video footage is very powerful evidence. Video surveillance increases the safety and security of the vehicle, prevents theft, prevents unauthorized use of vehicles and improves customer service. Other benefits include speed tracking, as well as real-time vehicle monitoring (with 3G/4G communication capability).

The big trend in mobile security digital video recorders is built in Wi-Fi to retrieve recorded video footage. In the past, companies would need to remove the hard drive to retrieve footage and backup video streams.  It would have to be manually removed from the recorder and handed over to IT or the dispatch manager, who would then have to do manual backups. Furthermore, the video recorder would likely be installed in a hidden and hard to reach location of the vehicle.  This makes removal of the hard drive difficult and prone to damage.

A DVR that has Wi-Fi offers convenient access to recorded video footage, and is secure and reliable. Not only does it enable fast and cost effective backups and access to recorded video, it also opens up more efficient system maintenance alternatives. Your surveillance system can be set up so recorded video footage is automatically backed up and downloaded whenever the vehicle is in range of your Wi-Fi network, such as when the vehicle has returned to the depot, or whenever you need it. It’s important to mention that good software that can correspond to these activities is very crucial.

Top Features:

  • Automatic upload of video files.
  • Technicians can log in, troubleshoot, update software, and manage settings remotely to perform maintenance.
  • Wi-Fi download of recorded footage can also enable faster access to events in the footage, with an Event or Panic button that drivers can use when an incident has occurred—marking the location in the recording. When the video is downloaded via Wi-Fi, these events can be quickly identified and viewed.
  • Whenever the in-transit vehicle is under abnormal condition, the alarm system can be triggered and send out alerts. This requires a cellular network such as 3G or 4G in order to transmit in real-time.
  • Stored data can be retrieved easily on-site or off-site to effectively clarify the responsibility and the cause of the accident to minimize any disputes.

When looking to invest in a mobile security system, choose a system that will meet your needs and will also make retrieval of recorded footage and system maintenance easy and reliable. Mobile security recorders with built-in Wi-Fi offer the best solution, are widely used by the transportation industry and are worth the investment.
