Skype Follows iOS 8 and Gains New Features

The launch of the iOS 8 prompted many apps on the iPhone to update its services, Microsoft included. Skype has been given a facelift in light of the iOS update. While the software has not been developed for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus screen sizes yet, we can only predict that it is in the works.

Skype has created a more user-friendly platform with interactive notifications on the lock screen and along with banner notifications. The Skype update allows the software to take full advantage of iOS 8. If you go into settings and turn on notifications in the updated version, the name of the caller will be displayed and all you have to do to answer is swipe left.

When your phone is locked, messages and missed calls will be displayed with a time stamp and name next to them. This allows users to respond faster than ever before, without having to launch the app from your home screen to use it. Although unlike like iMessage, there is no option for your message to be displayed on the lock screen.

If your phone is unlocked, you can answer video or messages by pulling down banner notifications at the top, and then you can chose to reply or just swipe up the notification.

This new feature leads Skype into the direction of a voice and text replacement service, which is beneficial to those who use it more than traditional cellular services.
