Shelly Palmer is Right: Fan Boys and Fan Girls Love the iPhone 6

I sometimes feel like I am in the Star Trek episode where Kirk is beamed into an alternate Enterprise where everyone is the same but different in personality.

All the folks who held my Samsung Note and said it was too big, are now walking around with the iPhone 6 plus. And guess what!  They love the big screen.

When Shelly wrote about the bending issue he pointed out two things.

One was very funny

Apparently “only nine people have complained” so far. Not eight, not 10… nine! That’s an exact quote. (Someone counted.) Let’s put that in perspective. 10,000,000 units sold, nine complaints. If we believe what Apple is telling us, more people probably injured themselves opening the box than experienced the now infamous bend.

The other was very ominous

“In practice, none of us have any standing to criticize or question. On any given day, Apple is either the most valuable company in the world – or close to it. It has more cash on its balance sheet than most countries, and it employs – without question – some of the smartest people on earth. So, it should come as no surprise that the rest of us are just stupid fanboys and fangirls (actually, I don’t think fangirls is a word) on an Apple juice drinking bender. The shareholder value and the cash had to come from somewhere.”

In other words, as was the battle cry of the 19 - seventies and eighties . . . ”No one ever lost money betting on IBM” is now the sentiment we hear about Apple.

Despite the fact that the fanboys and fangirls have a glorified Samsung Note in there hand with the iPhone 6, it just doesn’t matter.

Because the brand has carry over, to the point where the fact that VoLTE is now being supported has no influence on the ad campaigns.

In theory, as Rich Tehrani pointed out, the all-packet aspect of voice and apps on the iPhone6 now means that Verizon’s CDMA is no longer a problem and you can do two things at once.  This was enough deal in the past that AT&T used to poke fun at the loss of abilities on the Verizon network, but so far Verizon has not played up that aspect of the new iPhone’s features.

All the ads, are simply promoting awareness that the carriers are shouting “Me Too.”

So Shelly besides fanboys, fangirls we have fan carriers.

Don’t Bother Beaming me up, Scotty, it’s the same everywhere.
