Dell Survey Finds Tablets Commonplace in Workplaces Worldwide

Technology has certainly changed the way people work, as employees are no longer confined to their desks and can conduct business on-the-go and from anywhere. A new survey commissioned by Dell and conducted online by Harris Poll surveyed IT decision makers across 10 different countries this past summer and found the usage of tablets among the work environment is commonplace and has lead to numerous benefits.

The 2014 International Tablet Survey revealed that at least 90 percent of IT decision makers in the U.S., U.K., India, Brazil, China, France, Russia, UAE/Saudi Arabia and South Africa report that tablets are a standard part of their company's IT offerings or are currently under evaluation, while a little over 80 percent of those in Japan said the same. Additionally, more than or at least half of those IT decision makers in the U.S., India and China either enable employees to use tablets brought with their own money or with the assistance of company funds.

In the majority of countries where companies offer tablets as a standard IT practice and in all countries where tablets are not offered or are currently under evaluation, input from employees regarding the use of tablets have been favorable. Most of the IT decision makers surveyed across all of the 10 countries credited tablet adoption with helping to increase their productivity within their company since tablets make it easier to work while traveling, enhance customer service, offer quicker and more convenient access to information when away from the office, and enable employees to enter information in real-time which eliminates the chance of duplication.

On another positive note, tablets are meeting and exceeding expectations in all countries surveyed. Thus many IT decision makers plan to deploy more tablets in the future.

For those IT decision makers in companies that are evaluating the use of tablets or aren't currently offering them, security is the main concern with some specific issues including device theft, data loss, and data breaches.
