Vaultize Strengthens BYOD Adoption with Enterprise Digital Rights Management

The smart mobile devices we carry are now part of virtually everything we do, and this hasn’t escaped the companies we work for. As BYOD initiatives continue to increase in adoption, businesses want to ensure their digital assets are protected when their employees are accessing company resources. With news of high-profile breaches regularly in the headlines, security has become one of the most important issues for organizations with a digital presence, and BYOD exacerbates that concern. Vaultize, an enterprise file security and BYOD solution provider, has announced the introduction of enterprise digital management in mobile file sharing.

Vaultize will strengthen the adoption of BYOD initiatives with eDRM or enterprise information rights management in mobile file sharing and mobile content management (MCM). This new solution comes after a recent development the company introduced with a plugin-free and vendor agnostic enterprise rights management to file sync & share (EFSS) and virtual data room (VDR).

By combining both of these platforms, enterprise IT will have end-to-end security, control and visibility without sacrificing the user experience of their employees and other end-users.

"Content in mobile world is difficult to lockdown without security controls travelling with the content itself.  Vaultize addresses this through its patent-pending Micro-containerization technology, which is agnostic to file-formats and provides end-to-end file security," said Ankur Panchbudhe, CTO & Co-founder of Vaultize.

The key features of DRM with mobile file sharing include:

  • Access rights - IT and document-owner can control who can view, edit, print, copy-paste, forward and download the documents or the information contained in them
  • Location control - IT can control geo-locations and IP ranges from where the recipient can access the shared data
  • Expiration - IT and document-owner can set automatic expiration on the DRM-protected data
  • Revoking rights - At any time, IT and document-owner can remotely revoke the permissions/rights for accessing the shared documents, even after those are downloaded by a recipient on his own device
  • Secure Online Document Viewer - The viewing of shared documents by third-parties can be restricted to read-only access through a secure Web-based online document viewer, with full control on printing, copy-paste and screenshots
  • Digital Watermarking - With the online document viewer, watermarks (like logo or copyright texts) can be added to each page of the document to discourage printing, screen capture or photo capture. This watermarking has options for embedding text, image, email, IP of share link recipient
  • Device Lockdown - IT and document owner can decide to lock down a shared file to a device of the recipient as well as the limit on the number of accesses

The ability to give enterprise IT to automatically apply access rights to the shared files as part of automated policy enforcement is essential for anyone that has a BYOD program in place. With the Vaultize enterprise DRM, access to documents can be controlled with permissions to open, view, download, print, copy-paste, forward and edit them. It performs these capabilities no matter what device is being used, including company managed Windows or Mac PCs as well as BYOD smartphones and tablets managed through an enterprise mobility management (EMM) solution.
