Cox Launches New Wi-Fi Hotspots in Arizona

Wi-Fi hotspots are becoming a valuable part of life as people increasingly depend on Internet connectivity for their day-to-day activities, and when strategically placed they can be very useful to a wide range of users. Cox Communications, a member of the CableWiFi consortium which offers a nationwide network of more than 400,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, recently announced that it is expanding its own CoxWiFi network with the addition of about 5,000 new hotspots in Arizona, specifically throughout Tucson and the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.

Each hotspot was launched in a notably high-traffic area, such as a major business, hotel, restaurant or mall. The availability of convenient Wi-Fi is a direct driver of economic activity and plays a minor, yet noticeable, role in helping businesses improve their ability to satisfy their customers. Modern lifestyles tend to revolve around mobility and interconnected communications, so it’s logical that businesses hoping to win over customers should cater to that. It’s no accident that these 5,000 new hotspots were launched during the peak holiday season.

The CoxWiFi network now consists of areas in Connecticut, Las Vegas, Northern Virginia, Nebraska, Rhode Island and San Diego in addition to the new expansions in Arizona. Only current Cox subscribers have access to these hotspots as an extension of their in-home Internet access if they have Preferred, Premiere, Ultimate or G1GABLAST service.

“Whether your holiday travels take you to the east coast or west coast, Cox WiFi hotspots will help customers connect to the devices and content that matter most," commented Lewis Roberts, Executive Director of Wireless Broadband Access at Cox Communications. "Whether it's web browsing, social networks, home monitoring or simply finding a restaurant or tracking down a gift — Cox's High Speed Internet service extends well beyond the home."

Cox customers must simply enter their Cox user ID and password to log in to a hotspot when they see the CoxWiFi network location (SSID) show up in their device’s list of available networks. After this quick authentication procedure they are granted access to full Internet browsing capabilities at no additional charge, and that device will automatically recognize and log on to all other Cox Wi-Fi hotspots.

Customers can find nearby Wi-Fi hotspots by entering their location on Cox’s website and using the search tool, or by downloading the Cox Connect app onto their smartphone and finding directions to the nearest hotspot.
