Bloosurf Picks Alvarion's 4G Wireless Broadband Network

Maryland based rural broadband service provider Bloosurf has selected Alvarion’s 4G wireless broadband network to serve three adjacent counties and university campuses.

With the help of Alvarions end-to-end 4Motion network solution, operating in the 2.5 GHz spectrum, Bloosurf expects to provide the last-mile network of broadband service.

Bloosurf was awarded Federal Stimulus funds to bring broadband to Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset counties, and also Smith Island. The company is expected to provide broadband services that will benefit around 126,000 people, 6,000 businesses and 351 community institutions.

In areas such as the regional university campuses that are more populated, the company will offer wireless broadband service via partnerships with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Salisbury University and Wor-Wic Community College.

Additionally, Bloosurf has teamed-up with the universities to provide thousands of students on three campuses with consistent, high-speed connectivity to the university networks and to the Internet.

Company officials believe that Alvarion’s 4Motion solution will enable their company to offer ultra-fast service to educational, residential and commercial customers. Combining with BreezeMAX and other systems, 4Motion provides a complete ecosystem at the networklevel, allowing operators to be responsive to a diversity of subscriber needs.

Paul Carliner, president at Bloosurf, said that the flexibility of Alvarions solution will enable the company to roll out the wireless network so that the higher density areas, such as campuses serving thousands of savvy users, are consistently connected.

“Rural wireless broadband has been an important market for us throughout our history. Our focus on continuous technology advancements has enabled us to provide more flexible, cost-effective solutions that can be deployed more quickly,” said Eran Gorev, president and CEO at Alvarion.

Earlier in May, Alvarion announced that Foris Telecom, a mobile broadband Internet and applications service provider, launched its 4G network in Mozambique and Kampala, Uganda.
