iControl Networks' OpenHome Platform Powers Smart Home Monitoring from Rogers

iControl Networks, a provider of interactive solutions that define the broadband home management market, announced that its OpenHome software platform is powering Smart Home Monitoring from Rogers Communications, a leading provider of wireless, digital cable TV, Internet and home phone services to consumers and businesses in Canada.

Smart Home Monitoring is powered by both Rogers cable and Rogers wireless networks. It allows customers to automate and manage sensors, cameras, thermostats, lights and small appliances from the Web and smartphones. The service also allows customers to create customized rules to automate home control functionality.

The software is built on an ultra-rugged, easy-to-use touchscreen that consumers use to arm/disarm and manage their systems. The solution is available in wall-mount or table-top models. The touchscreen features quick 1-touch access to home security functions, home automation apps for lighting, cameras and thermostats as well as multimedia apps for photos, traffic, weather and sports.

When an alarm occurs, the touchscreen instantly connects with the Rogers central monitoring station simultaneously over both Rogers’ cable and wireless networks. The touchscreen constantly communicates with highly encrypted smart sensors throughout the home, checking their status, signal strength, battery level and even room temperature.

"Rogers is leading the broadband home management industry in Canada, and by offering this service, will be meeting the demands of consumers who want to better protect and manage their homes," said Jim Johnson, co-CEO of iControl, in a statement.  "We are excited to collaborate with an industry-leader like Rogers, and extend our offerings to the Canadian market."

In June, iControl Networks announced it closed over $50 million in Series D funding, bringing total investment in the company to more than $100 million. This round of funding will accelerate the deployment of iControl's energy management solution and other broadband home management services, while also positioning the company for international expansion.
