MetroPCS to Intro Android-Based 4G LTE LG Esteem

In response to mounting demand from its customers, Metro PCS, a provider of unlimited wireless services in major metropolitan areas across the country for consumers traditionally underserved by existing wireless carriers, is gearing up for the release of LG Esteem – a smartphone that combines the power of 4G LTE with the  Android OS.

In a press release, MetroPCS announced that the LG Esteem will be released soon for the Christmas shopping season. The industry is abuzz with an early October release.

Priced at $299, LG Esteem comes with a large 4.3-inch screen and five megapixel camera. This Ghz 4G LTE Android phone also features HDMI output, and front and rear cameras. The FCC approved phone is 720p and also has a flash, the company revealed.

MetroPCS, which was technically the first to bring 4G LTE phones to the market, lagged behind many of its competitors in bringing Android 4G LTE in the market. With the new release, Metro PCS actually becomes the third to release 4G LTE.

The industry-watchers are citing this release as MetroPCS’ way of firing back at its arch rival Verizon, the company that recently released Verizon LG Revolution, which is nearly identical to the LG Esteem.

Recently MetroPCS Communications announced that it will host a conference call to discuss its financial and operational results for the third quarter 2011 on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m. ET.
