uMax Picks Alavrion's 4Motion Solution to Intro 4G Network

Zimbabwe-based wireless broadband provider uMAX, an operating division of Dandemutande Investments, has selected Alvarion’s 4Motion solution to the roll-out a sizeable 4G network in the country’s capital Harare.

4Motion is Alvarion’s flagship 4G solution. It delivers wireless broadband connectivity for the most demanding, bandwidth-hungry, packet-based applications. Company officials said that it enables integrated mobile, nomadic and fixed connectivity in a single base station that supports a mixture of residential and business users.

Eran Gorev, president and CEO at Alvarion, said that uMAX is a fast-growing wireless broadband provider in an extremely dynamic market and our 4Motion solution will enable them to move forward and expand their customer base at an opportune time.

“The end-to-end approach behind 4Motion assures that their customers will begin benefiting from the new and enhanced services they plan to offer right away,” Gorev said.

uMAX said that it has commissioned Alvarion’s 4Motion solution to introduce Zimbabwe’s first 4G network for the delivery of high-speed wireless broadband services to residential and business customers in the 2.5 GHz frequency.

With the help of Alvarion’s 4G solution, uMAX expects to deliver services such as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), video-streaming and high-speed Internet.

Company officials said that the deployment of Alvarion’s end-to-end 4G solution is designed to supply its residential and corporate customers with more advanced broadband services enabled via USB dongles and other indoor and outdoor Customer Premises Equipment.

uMAX is expected to be the first service provider to enable consumers and businesses access to such services in Zimbabwe.

“Alvarion’s 4Motion allows us to deploy a technologically proven, comprehensive solution, that will directly improve customer experience and enable us to grow at a pace that suits our specific needs,” said Russel Clinton, CEO at Dandemutande Investments.

Earlier in February, PPL Electric Utilities deployed Alvarion's BreezeMAX Extreme 3650 WiMAX solution as part of its smart grid communications network.
