AT&T Bringing 4G LTE - Enabled Samsung Galaxy Tab to its Customers

AT&T, which already has an excellent Android lineup, announced the addition of Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 to its portfolio. With the introduction of this ultra thin tablet, AT&T also expands its portfolio of premier 4G LTE devices. The Samsung Galaxy Tab happens to be the second 4G LTE-enabled tablet offered to the AT&T customers.

AT&T also announced that it is going to launch 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) in six new markets on Nov. 20: Charlotte, Indianapolis , Kansas City, Las Vegas, Oklahoma City , and San Juan, Puerto Rico. With this, AT&T 4G LTE will reach 15 markets in total. The new launch is expected to help the company meet its 2011 market commitment, which is to reach 70 million Americans by year-end 2011.

The new Samsung tablet makes a perfect choice for Android fans who want an optimized Honeycomb experience in a best-in-class form factor, the communication giant suggested in a press release.

The product will be available for purchase at all AT&T owned retail stores and online stores beginning Nov. 20. The product has been priced at $479.99 with a two-year commitment

As a promotional offer, customers who select a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 will receive a Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket or Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone at no cost. The offer is valid only for a limited time, A two year agreement is required on the smartphone.

AT&T tablet customers are free to choose from a $35 , 3 GB monthly data plan option with a two-year contract or one of two existing monthly billing options for tablets:

  • Postpaid: $14.99 for 250 MB or $25 for 2 GB.
  • Prepaid: $14.99 for 250 MB or $25 for 2 GB.


Customers on the postpaid 2 GB plan who exceed their monthly data plan will be charged $10 per 1 GB of overage. Charges will appear on customers' monthly wireless statements.

Customers on the prepaid 2 GB plan who exceed their monthly data plan may choose to purchase an additional 2 GB for $25. Charges will appear on customers' credit card statements.

AT&T is the only U.S. carrier providing 4G using both HSPA+ and LTE technologies for a consistently fast connection in and out of 4G LTE areas. With the addition of 4G LTE enabled Samsung Galaxy Tab to its offering, the company is now offering 24 4G devices to its customers. For 2011, its goal was to offer 20 4G devices.

“The arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 adds to our outstanding Android lineup and our growing portfolio of premier 4G LTE devices. We're constantly adding new 4G LTE coverage and only AT&T offers 4G LTE plus 4G speeds through our HSPA+ network,” chief marketing officer of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets David Christopher noted in a statement.

 AT&T also announced the opening of a high-tech retail store in Jackson. According to the company, the store offers a way for customers to interact with and shop for an array of communications and entertainment services, including a hands-on demonstration area to engage customers and provide a "try before you buy" service experience.
