Besides delaying the release of the new generation Blackberry 10, Canada’s Research In Motion has also been falsely raising the hopes of BlackBerry enthusiasts by talking about its arrival and then pushing it to late 2012. In fact, this delay was confirmed by RIM’s co-CEO Jim Balsillie during the company’s third quarter earnings call last week. According to market watchers, Blackberry 10 was RIM’s best hope for recovery, but this delay is going to hurt the BlackBerry maker.
Although, the company executives are blaming it on late release of a new chip powering the new generation Blackberry 10, a Boy Genius Report on Thursday reported that the main reason is the the failure to bring its core email and messenger services on the new platform. In reality, a source close to the situation told Boy Genius Report’s chief editor Jonathan Geller that developers have been unsuccessful in making the company’s new operating system (OS) work with the network infrastructure RIM is known for.
The anonymous source told chief editor Geller that “RIM is simply pushing this out as long as they can for one reason, they don't have a working product yet.”
However, RIM denies the comments in Boy Genius Report. In an email statement to CNET news, RIM said, “As explained on our earnings call, the broad engineering impact of this decision and certain other factors significantly influenced the anticipated timing for the BlackBerry 10 devices.”
“The anonymous claim suggesting otherwise is inaccurate and uninformed,” RIM added, wrote CNET News reporter Roger Cheng.
Meanwhile, during last week’s earnings call with analysts, co-CEO Mike Lazaridis reiterated that, “ the smartphone processor it has chosen, which combines a dual-core chip with a more power-efficient 4G LTE radio, wouldn't come out until the middle of the year,” wrote Cheng Lazaridis added, “RIM couldn't provide the kind of BlackBerry experience customers were used to without this chip,” as per the CNET News report.
According to CNET News, Apple is readying a 4G LTE version of iPhone, which is slated for release in 2012.
