Vidyo, Verizon Wireless Demonstrate HD Videoconferencing Over 4G LTE

Vidyo has announced that the company has teamed up with Verizon Wireless to showcase HD videoconferencing over a 4G LTE network.

Shoppers – or, in this case, CES attendees – can interact through a sleek, futuristic retail kiosk to select flattering, stylish and coordinated clothing using Vidyo’s innovative HD, low-latency videoconferencing technology in conjunction with the Verizon 4G LTE network.

The shopper can interact live, via Vidyo technology, with a human fashion consultant who can see and interact with the shopper in the same way as if he or she were there in person after a shopping avatar helps a shopper narrow style and color selections to three options.

Ofer Shapiro, chief executive officer and founder of Vidyo, said, “The Connected Retail Experience is a brilliant example of how Vidyo’s fluid, natural videoconferencing technology can be made even more useful and effective when married with ancillary data available at the same time over the Verizon 4G LTE network.  CES attendees will be treated to a vivid preview of how these innovative technologies might eliminate the tedious aspects of shopping.”

The fashion consultant can base his or her advice on additional information available via the 4G LTE network, including the shopper’s previous purchases, coordinating accessories offered by different suppliers, and whether an item the shopper is considering for a special event (e.g. a prom or large charity event) has already been purchased by another attendee of that event, in addition to being able to interact live with the shopper via HD videoconferencing – seeing the shopper’s hair color, style, etc.

Recently, the company demonstrated its award-winning multipoint video conferencing software on Amazon’s new Kindle Fire, at CES ShowStoppers in Las Vegas. The company will also showcase the latest platform support for its VidyoMobile HD video conferencing software client: Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ running on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smart phone. The new Android mobile platform will be part of a live, multi-point, global video conference connecting an extensive variety of endpoints on iOS and Android mobile devices.
