Starent Networks Performs Interoperability Testing to Advance Deployment of WiMAX Networks

Starent Networks, a provider of infrastructure solutions that enable mobile operators to deliver multimedia services, has participated in interoperability testing with ZyXEL Communications, a provider of secure broadband networking, and TECOM, a Taiwanese manufacturer of telecommunications equipment, to further validate the company's involvement in the development and promotion of the WiMAX industry.

The products tested were Starent Networks' Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway and Home Agent for WiMAX, the ZyXEL WiMAX Base Station MAX-2021 and TECOM Macro Base Station WM5070.

"Interoperability among multiple vendors validates the standards-driven WiMAX initiative, which should ultimately lead to quicker roll out of WiMAX networks at lower capital expenditures by operators," said Ashraf Dahod, president and CEO of Starent Networks. "By testing our solution with vendors like ZyXEL and TECOM, Starent Networks is successfully demonstrating an open architecture, end-to-end WiMAX solution."

ZyXEL has established strategic alliance relationships with many renowned WiMAX equipment makers and completed interoperability tests and is now taking part in international WiMAX deployment projects in the Americas, Europe and Asia in cooperation with many major operators.

"The interoperability testing TECOM is conducting with Starent Networks demonstrates to operators deploying WiMAX networks, that they can expect high quality, interoperable solutions from world leading vendors. TECOM has also done the right thing and proven that the open R6 interface is the major trend for WiMAX networks," said Wesley Huang, president of TECOM CO., LTD. "Such testing ensures a more rapid rollout of networks that are ready to deliver broadband multimedia services to the end user."
