Botswana Telecom Selects Redknee's Turnkey Converged Billing Solution

Redknee Solutions Inc., a provider of software and services for communications service providers, today announced that its Turnkey Converged Billing Solution has been selected by Botswana Telecommunications Corporation, a government owned communications service provider in Africa.

Michael R. Carroll, acting chief executive officer at BTC, said that his company needed a flexible billing platform capable of handling real-time charging for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers for a variety of services.

He also said that it was important that the solution have the potential to deliver support for all transactions across multiple access technologies, including GSM, WiMax and fixed-line.

According to Carroll, the solution from Redknee met the tight timeframe for deployment and offered “the right combination of a proven, cost effective and efficient architecture, while providing an evolutionary path to address future needs, including new multi-media and mobile-payment services.”

Redknee’s Turnkey Converged Billing solution is currently managing all of BTC’s retail wireless billing needs.

Redknee’s Turnkey Converged Billing Solution integrates multiple services for prepaid, postpaid, and hybrid subscribers, from the customer layer through to the service layer of the network, providing users “true” convergence, according to Redknee officials.

Officials said that BTC will benefit from the complete Redknee TCB portfolio, including real-time converged rating, subscriber management, invoicing, billing and settlement, and real-time analytics.

These advanced functionalities, BTC says, will enable it to serve a broader base of customers with a uniform set of subscriber-centric services, such as real-time loyalty promotions.

“Redknee is increasing its investment and presence in the African market, and is looking forward to a long partnership with BTC,” said Lucas Skoczkowski, chief executive officer at Redknee. “We are pleased to have been selected by BTC and will fully support them over the coming years as their subscriber base continues to grow and as their services continue to evolve.”

He also said that in selecting the Redknee solution, BTC is demonstrating its commitment to delivering “increased responsiveness and world leading value-added services to its customers.”
