IDC: Huawei No.1 in Terms of Commercial WiMAX 16e Contracts

Huawei won 17 new commercial WiMAX 16e contracts in the first half of 2008, which the company said is more than the total number of contracts signed for the whole of 2007.
Huawei has secured 29 WiMAX 16e commercial contracts and accumulated over 35 trials to date, and according to IDC, this means Huawei is the joint market-leader in WiMAX 16e market share.

Zhao Ming, president of Huawei's WiMAX product line said in a statement that Huawei is the only solution provider to rank in the 'Top 3' across mobile, fixed network and IP segments according to industry analyst firms, Dittberner, Ovum-RHK and Gartner.

Ming indicated that Huawei has been developing these technologies for over 10 years and is committed to integrating optimal resources to provide their customers with the most competitive and diversified WiMAX solutions.

Huawei officials explained that their WiMAX solutions use Huawei's 4th generation Base Transceiver Station (BTS) platform. Featuring high-capability, multi-standard integration and ‘Green’ technologies, BTS provide operators with the means to undergo smooth network evolution in the future while maximizing their Return on Investment (ROI).

Operators are concerned with maximizing their investment during the initial stage of network deployment, said Huawei. The operators thus rapidly deploy services and simplify operations and management. Huawei's compact WiMAX solution integrates multiple network elements and help operators to rapidly deploy an economical network while reducing their Operating Expense (OPEX) by 30 percent.

Earlier this year, Huawei released its first CPE and USB dongle terminal satisfying Wave2 requirements providing even greater choice for operators wishing to deploy WiMAX services.

According to Ming, Huawei believes establishing and maintaining a cohesive ecosystem is the key to the development of WiMAX industry and to this end, Huawei is committed to building an open WiMAX ecosystem and promoting the healthy development of WiMAX industry chain.

“The global wireless broadband market has leapt into a phase of rapid development. Huawei' s end-to-end WiMAX solutions, are able to address any operator' s WiMAX needs,” he stated.

Huawei is a core member of the IEEE802.16 and WiMAX Forum contributing to many joint industry proposals. The company is also committed to promoting interoperability testing of chips, terminals and equipment.
Huawei completed its second WiMAX IOT (interoperability test) in Hong Kong in April 2008, and has now performed IOT with products from manufacturers including Runcom, SEQUANS, GCT, ZyXEL, SEWON and ASUS.
