"This router is the ideal solution for the consumer who wants to be the first on his or her block with the ultimate 'all-in-one' networking device," said Daniel Kelley, senior director of marketing for D-Link Systems in Fountain Valley, California.
Kelley also said that it offered full functionality as a router/NAS storage/print server/FTP device, and was an attractive on any desktop, environmentally friendly and Internet secure.
The router DIR-685 features internal antennas. Also, the network attached storage (NAS) supports both UPnP server functions and BitTorrent downloads. It has built-in FTP server for accessing content through the home network or remotely over the Internet.
The DIR-685 uses D-Link Green technology. It automatically recognizes port activity and cable length and adjusts power usage accordingly. It directs all functions to a single device, saving energy. Also, it uses the idle mode that automatically turns off power to the LCD screen. A wide local area network (WLAN) scheduler can turn off the router's Wi-Fi module at a preset time, and saving power up to 30 percent.
The USB ports are at the back of the DIR-685 using the new D-Link SharePort technology for multiple users to seamlessly share USB devices from anywhere at home or office, in a Wi-Fi environment.
D-Link, with
FrameChannel, a free web service, manages the photo frame feature of the DIR-685 to allow customization of content displayed on the screen.
