Synchronoss, Xandros Deliver First Grab-and-Go Wireless Carrier Activation for Netbooks

Synchronoss Technologies has partnered with Xandros to offer the first single-source solution to automate the activation and provisioning of netbook devices on 3G and 4G wireless networks, according to the companies.

Synchronoss Technologies is a global provider of on-demand transaction management software platforms and Xandros provides seamless Windows-Linux interoperability and open source netbook software solutions.

As per the agreement, Synchronoss’ ConvergenceNow Plus± platform’s On-Device Activation Wizard will integrate its embedded activation functionality directly within Xandros’ netbook software solutions. This integration will enable a wizard-driven ‘grab-and-go’ network activation experience.

The original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original device manufacturers (ODMs) greatly benefit from the inclusion of the embedded activation wizard as a component of netbooks that use the Xandros operating system and application stack.

This inclusion means they can provide the capability to instantly create and access new 3G and 4G wireless accounts with any available carrier. Any netbook OEM/ODM can leverage the combined solution to conveniently and consistently automate wireless order and fulfillment processes, which typically are manual and complex.

The industry is rapidly moving towards a next generation mobility marketplace, according to Daniel Rizer, executive vice president of Business Development, Synchronoss Technologies.

Features such as low costs, size and portability are attracting consumers towards the emerging devices such as netbooks. The consumers also want simplified access to their broadband-enabled resources. Rizer indicated that they are partnering with Xandros to simplify and accelerate the activation process for the customer while reducing the subscriber management complexities for the CSPs and OEMs.

Because of the joint solution, retailers no longer have to handle the netbook wireless activation process. The Synchronoss and Xandros solution acts as a single source for complete subscriber account management to allow customers to activate 3G and 4G wireless services and devices instantly. The solution also provides the service providers and OEMs with end-to-end real time visibility into the process.

Commenting on the new release, Andreas Typaldos, Xandros CEO said that their joint solution opens exciting new marketing opportunities for carriers, OEMs, and retailers who want to offer custom branded netbooks with online products and services.
The solution also makes it easy for end users to get online anytime, anywhere, he added.
