XL Axiata, Huawei Demo 'Turbo Button' to Increase LTE Speeds

XL Axiata and Huawei recently showed how a Turbo Button was able to increase 4G LTE speeds – just by pushing a button on a mobile app.

The feature was showed off by XL Axiata, an Indonesian mobile operator, at the 2013 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum held in Indonesia. It used the Networker solution for LTE which is offered by Huawei. During the demo, XL Axiata used the button to improve video call quality.

Overall, the Turbo feature is well-suited for high-speed web searches, online gaming, large file uploads and downloads, and HD video streaming, according to a company statement. In fact, mobile users can use the Turbo Button to increase data speeds from 1 Mb/s up to 70 Mb/s.

Huawei’s Networker is a platform which customizes features found in a network. It is found with Huawei’s SoftMobile solution.

The Turbo solution could be used in Indonesia or elsewhere in the world. In the case of Indonesia, XL Axiata would have a potential market for the technology. The company provides mobile services to more than 90 percent of the nation’s 240 million residents.

Al Axiata, which is part of Malaysia's Axiata Group Bhd., is expanding its presence in the tech sector. For example, it recently announced that its stock jumped to the highest price in some six months, according to a report from Reuters. Industry watchers credit investor interest to the Indonesian government approving a proposal for Al Axiata to acquire PT Axis Telekom, an Indonesian mobile phone operator.

"This is a very important milestone in our consolidation journey and we believe we remain on track to finalize this process," Hasnul Suhaimi, the president of Al Axiata, said in a company filing. "The regulator's approval is a highly positive step in the continued development of our company's business, the industry and for consumers.”
