Broadband Services Offers Silver Bullet in Down Economy

The down economy has impacted a number of segments in the communications technology market. Yet broadband services appear to be one of the few bright spots. And as such, service providers are seeing increased demand for the service.

During Technology Marketing Corporation’s ITEXPO West 2009 4G Wireless Evolution Conference, industry experts will discuss how service providers can benefit from that silver bullet known as IPTV. But to keep maintain interest, the technology’s performance must live up to users’ expectations.

Jim Nevelle, CEO of Sorrento Networks, Inc.,  a Centennial, Col.-based provider of metro optical access solutions, will participate in a session called, “Deploying IPTV,” on Sept. 3 at 1:45 p.m. During the session, Nevelle will speak about the role of IPTV and triple play migration plans using wavelength division multiplexing technology.

The presentation will give service providers tips and tools to implement lower-cost IPTV architectures, including practical ways to implement a broadcast optical IPTV backbone that offers a high QoS and meets all triple-play requirements. The session will also cover triple play network migration, IPTV service requirements and touch on the differences between broadcast and multicast IP video.

The session will target service providers that offer triple play network deployment plans, but want to figure out how optimize the network on a budget.

Nevelle told TMC CEO Rich Tehrani in a recent interview that the broadband delivery market is the industry segment that has the strongest potential.

“The demand for broadband services is a very resilient,” Nevelle said. “Networks providing Gigabit Ethernet services are still being built and proposal generation by carriers to their customers is higher now than over a year ago.”

Nevelle will be joined by Rahul Vir, senior product manager of Brocade Communications and Anthony Marcello, director of IOC operations for MetaSwitch, who will offer their thoughts about the topic.

Sorrento Networks, Inc. offers an edge-to-regional CWDM, DWDM and ROADM product portfolio to carriers and enterprises.
