Multi-Tech Systems Makes It Easier for Organizations Moving From iDEN to CDMA Technology

Users who are moving to the code division multiple access (CDMA) method for communication technology will find an easier transition with the Multi-Tech Systems’ MultiModem rCell intelligent wireless router.

The offering is significant given how users are being forced to move from the older integrated digital enhanced network (iDEN) technology to the newer CDMA technology.

Machine to Machine (M2M) devices and routers that were made for the iDEN network will likely not work on the CDMA network.  Also, the new method will provide users more options and faster communications.

Sprint is expected to stop providing the iDEN network at the end of June, CNET reported.

“Sprint's partners are working to make this a seamless and affordable process so that your business can continue to function without missing a step,” Personal Communications Devices (PCD) advised iDEN users.

iDEN technology was developed by Nextel and was well known for providing push-to-talk service.

But Sprint acquired the Nextel operation a few years ago and Sprint wants to move in a different direction. Sprint's Network Vision Plan includes a network upgrade and the move to 4G LTE technology, the report from CNET said.

Still, iDEN has been used successfully by the construction, plumbing and public safety sectors, and some enterprises, news reports said.

Multi-Tech's MultiModem rCell intelligent wireless routers are offered through the M2M portal and PCD.

"Multi-Tech supports the Sprint CDMA long-term roadmap to meet customer needs," Matt Sharma, executive vice president of Multi-Tech, said in a recent statement. "We are committed to technology solutions to support Sprint's Network Vision rollout and to continuing our long-term relationship."

The MultiModem rCell intelligent wireless routers provide 2G and 3G, GSM and CDMA performance, the company said. It also provides connectivity for mission-critical applications and enhanced M2M uses, the company adds. The MultiModem rCell intelligent wireless routers offer 10/100BaseT Ethernet and RS-232 serial connectivity, the company also announced in an online statement.

"The MultiModem rCell is a good fit for iDEN customers transitioning onto Sprint CDMA services," George Appling, president and CEO of PCD, said. "Our partnership with Multi-Tech provides a smart and reliable M2M solution for Sprint customers within a framework that is both expedient and convenient, further advancing our commitment to the Network Vision Plan."

"We are proud to offer exciting next generation technologies and solutions to our iDEN data transport customers through such a user-friendly migration portal," Wayne Ward, vice president-Emerging Solutions Group, Sprint, added.  "The MultiModem rCell is a key addition to our portfolio of M2M products that provide valuable solutions for our customers' toolkits.”
