Verizon 4GLTE Network Sees Downtime, Again

Verizon apparently resolved a 4GLTE “issue” Wednesday night – but the down time was the third time this month an outage happened to the network – and many users are justifiably annoyed.

In a tweet, Verizon reported that 3G “operated normally,” and calling and texting services “were unaffected” by the disruption, according to the Twitter post.

The outage was “sporadic” given that some users in New York City had “no issues while others” were having them, according to Droid Life. Meanwhile, users in Phoenix, Minneapolis, Detroit, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco and Portland were reportedly down during the most recent disruption, DroidLife said.

There were disputed claims about whether 3G was impacted by the outage.

It’s not a surprise the outage got bloggers posting comments on Droid Life.

GizmoDude 1 said, “At this rate Verizon won't have a monopoly because it seems all carriers are going to be unreliable.”

On the other hand, John Davids said, “Boo-hoo.”

“So it goes down for a few hours, a few times a month, in a few markets. You realize you are still getting in the neighborhood of 98 percent up-time on a network that is barely a year old, right? This right here is the problem with Americans, their ever-expanding sense of entitlement,” Davids adds.

But Tony K 1 noted the outage was “the third time this month. If I pay $30 a month for a service, excuse me for expecting it to work.”

On Dec. 7, Verizon 4G LTE said they lost data service, and so did some 3G users, according to a report from CNET.  A Dec. 21 outage led to “reports of angry customers” on Twitter, MobilityTechzone adds.

CNET’s Lance Whitney said that Verizon “has been mum as to the cause of the persistent problem.”

Roger Entner, founder of Recon Analytics, suspects the outages are “being caused by upgrades and patches to the network. As such, one single glitch can cascade to affect multiple regions of the entire country,” CNET said.
